Small Claims Court

Small Claims Court is a branch of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.  A Paralegal may provide representation in all Small Claims Court matters whereas the monetary total is equal to or below $50,000.00. A proceeding would be commenced if you believe that you are owed money for damages occurred or in the reverse if someone has served you with a Plaintiff's Claim stating you owe them money. Small Town Paralegal would be retained to handle your case in all aspects of this proceeding from start to finish. Small Town Paralegal can be retained to prepare and send a demand letter, prepare, file and serve a plaintiffs claim and/or defence, attend and prepare for settlement conference and a hearing is required. We will try to resolve your matter along the way and keep you fully informed throughout. 

Provincial offences act & Traffic Tickets

The Provincial Offences Act (POA) is an Ontario statue that sets out and governs charges laid under provincial statues, municipal by-laws and specific federal statues. These laws are considered "regulatory offences" which are laws that regulate behaviour in society. The most common form of this would be charges under the Highway Traffic Act. Traffic tickets are the most common form of POA cases handled by most Paralegals. Individuals are always allowed to represent themselves on any POA matters however Paralegals have an expertise knowledge of these matters and are able to handle it in a more time efficient manner.

The Landlord & Tenant Board is apart of the Social Justice Tribunals and is the governing body for all issues arising between a residential Landlord and Tenant in the course of a rental agreement. There are numerous ways that a issue would arise and various avenues to resolve this issue. Whether you are a Landlord or a Tenant you are entitled to a safe and enjoyable interaction while in the contract of a residential rental agreement. If those rights are not present Small Town Paralegal can be retained to represent you in front of the Landlord & Tenant Board in your matter. 


Small Town Paralegal is available to be retained to draft and serve Notice's from both landlords and tenants, file Applications with the LTB, prepare and attend the matter at a Merit's hearing, and/or resolve the matter anytime throughout the process. 

Criminal OFfences; Summary Convictions

Summary conviction offences are considered less serious criminal charges under Canadian law but can still result in significant penalties, including fines, probation, or jail time. These offences are typically dealt with in the Ontario Court of Justice, without a jury, and follow a more streamlined court process. Common examples include causing a disturbance, trespassing at night, and minor theft.

family legal service provider (FLSP)

Recently, the Law Society of Ontario has provided new instructions for Paralegals who wish to complete the FLSP program and offer some services in Family Law. Hayley was the first part time program for FLSP and started in January 2025 with a one year part time course. Following that, she wrote her FLSP exam and after passing; is officially a Family Legal Service Provider in April 2026. 


Hayley can provide services in; uncontested simple divorces, some enforcement proceedings, filing domestic contracts, motion to change child support based on T4 income only, assistance with FRO, and process navigation. 


The areas of representation to an FLSP will require an in-depth consultation to discuss your matter and determine if we are the right fit for you. We are excited to provide affordable legal representation in some areas of family law. 

Notary Public & Commissioner of Oaths

A Notary Public is a person authorized by the Government of Ontario whom may perform the following duties; witness oaths, sign affidavits and certify documents to be true copies of the originals. Small Town Paralegal is proud to offer these services in a fast and efficient manor. If you need a Notary Public you can book an appointment via email or telephone or visit our office at 6 Isaac Street, Clinton. 


Commissioning is currently a cost at $30.00 plus HST per commissioning. Notary Public completion is a cost of $50.00 plus HST per stamp.
